Aged Care Capacity Building Workshops – New South Wales: Orana and Far West Regions

ACCPA is providing support and specialist assistance to deliver one-day Capacity Building Workshops to aged care and home care providers.

The Capacity Building Workshops are designed for providers of aged care and home care in regional, rural, and remote communities, including organisations delivering care and services to First Nations communities.

These workshops involve sector engagement and education activities that build approved provider capacity and capability, which are of common concern for providers. Engage with providers to understand local issues and challenges relating to the following topics below, as well as understanding local networks.

Workshop topics include:
Strategy, Collaboration, Communication:
  • Aged Care Reforms
  • SIRS – Serious Incident Reporting Scheme
  • Regional topics of concern, identified through engagement with pre-workshop survey.
  • Current support available, including but not limited to grant access, trusted Indigenous facilitators / care funding program.
  • Presentations informed by the DoHAC; SDAP, Business advisory, Workforce advisory, Rural locum assistance program, ACQSC supports

The workshops are designed to address specific regional challenges and to support providers to adapt their approach to day-to-day organisational activities, with a focus on best practice and excellence in consumer and resident outcomes.

  • Improvement approach to provider service delivery
  • Having a dedicated forum for providers to discuss regional issues in aged care
  • Building and strengthening provider networks
  • Exploring culturally appropriate methods and approaches

The workshops will draw on the success factors derived from the previous workshops facilitated by ACCPA. A later-stage evaluation process will help to inform the DoHAC to continue to build provider capacity into the future.  


Target Audience:

Key representatives within eligible Councils and aged care providers of several New South Wales Planning Regions – including Orana and Far West regions.

Trainer Information:
Anna Millicer – ACCPA Consultant Anna Millicer has worked in community care for 30 years and championed the consumer self-directed care movement in Australia through advocacy, research, and best-practice service design. Anna’s expertise is in Home Care, where she supports providers to prepare for quality audits, facilitates various training workshops, and promotes innovative partnership approaches to support providers, and to enhance consumer and family engagement.  
Di Herr – ACCPA Consultant Diane Herr is a Registered Nurse with over 25 years’ experience in the aged care sector. Diane has broad and extensive knowledge and applies these skills and expertise across both clinical and operational areas, including compliance review and management, and quality improvement. Diane includes elements of training and mentoring in consultancies undertaken, to ensure staff are supported and have the knowledge to effectively perform their roles.  
Keelie Bormann – Policy Advisor Keelie is a law graduate who brings strong research and analytical skills to her policy-related work in the aged care field. As a Policy Advisor with ACCPA, Keelie engages with members through Special Interest Groups (including those for First Nations and Regional, Rural and Remote topics) and contributes to the development of policy submissions to Government, particularly in the context of reform following the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. Keelie holds a particular interest in regulatory reform and First Nations aged care policy and has broad visibility over key reform developments through coordinating weekly Policy and Advocacy communications to ACCPA members.
