Let’s Talk, funded by the NSW DFV Innovation funding allocation, provides support, mediation and counselling to older persons, and their families/carers, who are negotiating change, making decisions regarding future planning, or wishing to resolve spousal/partner, family and intergenerational conflicts. The service assists individuals and families dealing with issues of age-related declining health, changes in circumstances, and elder abuse. Let’s Talk’s remit is to enable older persons and their families/carers to have difficult conversations safely, to mitigate the potential for abuses of the older person. The guiding principle of Elder Mediation is to keep the needs, rights and wishes of the older person paramount.
Relationships Australia’s Reconnect Wellbeing Program which aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness, improve wellbeing and increase connection through client-centred support, low intensity psychological therapies and psychosocial support, as well as referrals to services and social opportunities.
- Fiona will be presenting an overview of the Let’s Talk service touching on Elder Abuse, the challenges and advantages of elder mediation, and ways older people can protect their interests as they age.
- Francis will explain how Reconnect caseworkers work individually with the older person on goals of reconnection they would like to achieve and discuss the complexities of engaging older people in therapeutic processes.
