Karen Singh has significant experience in the roll-out of patient safety initiatives, improvement systems and safety culture across Queensland. Karen has held senior leadership positions in public, private and aged care facilities across Australia, driving preventable harm, governance, compliance and complaints management, and building organisational cultures of learning. Karen is a registered nurse, holds a Bachelor of Health Science and a PhD with a focus of the dissertation in clinical incident management systems.

The purpose of clinical governance is to provide structure and direction in the provision of safe high-quality care and delivery of services. Aged Care Quality Standard 8 requires the development of a clinical governance framework. In this workshop series we operationalise clinical governance using the core elements defined by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission that is simple, understandable, and practical.

Delivered across two sessions, the Clinical Governance workshops gives your organisation the opportunity to develop and implement key elements to ensure effective clinical governance in your existing systems.

Session 1 – Delivered by Dr Karen Singh

  • Explores the core elements of a clinical governance framework and how to establish it.
    • Key areas include – clinical care, National Aged Care Quality Indicator Program, incident management, engagement/complaints/feedback, compliance audits.

Session 2 – Delivered by Cheryl Edwards

  • Discusses how to build and implement a Just culture into workforce capability from policy to practice.
  • Explores no-blame reporting and speaking up for safety

 

Learning outcomes include:

Session 1-

  • Understand what is, and how to establish a clinical governance framework
  • Understand how to address the Aged Care Quality Standards and Clinical Governance requirements using an effective Quality & Risk Management System.

Session 2

  • Understand the concept of a Just culture
  • Learn how to lead a Just culture and establish a culture of care and resilient workforce.

Please note that an essential requirement is that all participants gain access to a PC and/or iPad or mobile device, and use a headphone set, although they do not need to be in the same location. Training rooms without personal headphones can result in feedback which may impede training delivery and reduce participant enjoyment. Headphones do not need to be expensive units, and many people have their own personal headphones /mic that they use with their smart phones, which will be suitable plugged into the computer unit if this is your choice of set up,
