Experiences of Older People
August 13 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm$20 – $140
Our role often requires us to work with older people in our communities who have become vulnerable due to the losses they have encountered. Traditionally the losses of function, capacity or relationships have been seen only as deficits without balancing the individuals resilience, knowledge and strengths.
Now we can work in a way that enhances the lives of older people by supporting their independence, choices and control over their lives. Motivation comes from knowing what a good life looks like.
Exploring with an older person, what makes a good life for them, can lead to discoveries that build connections, understanding and esteem.
Outcomes from this online workshop will include;
- Greater understanding of the experiences of older people.
- An opportunity to examine the negative impact of language, assumptions and ageism on the lives of older people.
- Identify ways we can support people in our work to strengthen their independence and active aging for good lives outcomes.
This is a great introductory session for people new to the workforce or want to enhance their work practice.
