Mental Health Awareness: Supporting the Older Person. A Q&A session for CHSP workers and Volunteers
July 30 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm$20 – $60
Peter is an ‘Older Person’ Recovery Advocate who has been living well with a mental health condition for many years since his diagnosis in his late teens. Peter provides CHSP Aged Care Workers with understanding and insight about the primary concerns and challenges that older people with mental health problems often face as they age, and the quality of care and support they require to ensure ongoing wellbeing and quality of life. Prior to his retirement in 2018 Peter held positions as a school teacher, school principal, and a counsellor specialising in mental health. He currently leads a very active lifestyle and enjoys playing table tennis, singing with his choir group, walking his dogs on the beach and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Peter has been an ‘Older Person’ Recovery Advocate sharing his story at ACSA training sessions for CHSP Aged Care workers in Regional and Metropolitan SA since 2019.
ACSA, in collaboration with Mental Health & Wellbeing Training Solutions, will facilitate a 1-hour webinar in a Q&A format responding to the direct needs of CHSP support workers and volunteers on issues they may have found challenging in the home environment during the provision of services and care following the recent COVID-19 restrictions.
CHSP Workers and Volunteers will have the opportunity to ask mental health related questions. As part of the registration process, participants will be asked to share a challenging situation they may have experienced which Robyn and Peter will problem-solve and discuss during the 1-hour webinar.
The aim of the webinar is to support CHSP workers and volunteers by:
- Responding to questions submitted during the registration process
- Identifying strategies that provide effective support for clients
- Problem-solving challenging situations
- Increasing the knowledge & awareness of mental health problems older people may be experiencing.
Target audience: CHSP workers and volunteers (but also available to ACSA Members and Non Members)
Please note: Every effort will be made to acknowledge and respond to all questions submitted; however this depend on the number of questions received during the registration process and time availability on the day.
**This Webinar will be held 2.00 – 3.00 pm (Adelaide time).
