96.7% of the new Quality Standard requirements not met during recent Review Audits
In data just released from the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission on performance of service providers from audits conducted during the transition period (January to March 2019), many residential service providers outside of the usual three year accreditation cycle were clearly not ready for the “go live” date for the new Standards on July 1, 2019. The most frequent areas of non-compliance were Standards 7, 2, 3 and 8.
With customer outcomes, expectations and first hand experience of service delivery front and centre in the new review process, closely followed by what the aged care workforce say and do every day; it is critical that every person involved in care delivery and support across the organisation understands their collective contribution to meeting and in fact exceeding the requirements for each quality standard.
ACSA’s “Getting it Right” workshop is designed specifically for front line and support staff to understand each of the eight standards but with a particular focus on their contribution to Standards 1 – 4. The program provides detailed information on the examples and evidence for each standard and also supports staff to develop their own action plan for continuous improvement in their job role. With 17.5% of Residential Care services and 35.3% of Home Services not being returned to full compliance there is no time like the present to ensure you have provided effective training and support to your staff to understand and implement the new standards effectively.
