Meeting the needs of people from diverse backgrounds
Program Short Description
2 hour Presentation. This workshop looks at the Quality Standards, incorporates the Diversity Framework and demonstrates what this looks like with a service that provides Aged Care. It is aimed at an audience of all levels.
All Aged Care Organisations are expected to deliver care and services that are inclusive and do not discriminate.
Care and services are expected to be responsive, inclusive and sensitive to:
- Culturally and linguistically diverse consumers,
- Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex consumers, and
- People who identify from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
The older person defines their own identity, and this should be respected and not questioned. Respecting the identity, culture and diversity of the older person, means understanding their needs and preferences in the provision of care and services which reflect each individual’s social, cultural, language, religious, spiritual, psychological and medical needs.
Target group: This workshop is designed for all staff who work with the Elderly. To understand the perspective of the person receiving care (care recipient) and the other is from the perspective of the organisation providing those services.
